Kenneth Lee Sanger

Kenneth Lee Sanger,  son of the late William and Virginia Sanger, dear brother of Carol A. Sanger, also survived by many loving friends both 2 and 4 legged. Passed away on March 25, 2023 at the age of 72 years.

A childhood bout with encephalitis left him with lifelong challenges to overcome, but none stopped him from living a full and happy life. He spent the first half of it with his loving parents and older sister. Carol, moving from Cincinnati to Fort Lauderdale, FL, to access special education opportunities unavailable to him here at the time. Later he moved with his parents to Tucson, AZ, and then to Hendersonville. NC, where he worked in various restaurant kitchens before returning to Cincinnati permanently in the early ‘80s.

Following the deaths of his parents, Kenny continued living at home with his sister Carol for the remainder of his life. He played golf and bowling with Hamilton County Special Olympics for a number of years, proudly showing off his many winning medals. He also helped care for innumerable rescued animals of all sorts over the years, ranging from dogs and cats to donkeys, goats and fish. He wanted to be St. Francis’s helper, and he was all of that. Animals sensed in Kenny an innocence and kindness many had never encountered before, and through his loving care they had their trust humans restored.

Next to animals, Kenny loved sports of all kinds, but without a doubt he loved his Reds best of all. Win or lose, he wouldn’t miss a game on tv if he could help it. And he would actively rail against Reds management whenever they would lose.

He loved music, traveling, trains, jigsaw puzzles, following the news and greeting neighbors from his front porch rocker.

Kenny possessed the kindest, most beautiful smile and it is that smile — along with his legacy of love for animals and his unfettered devotion to his sister— that all who knew him will never forget.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 2944 Erie Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45208, on Saturday, April 15th beginning at 11 AM with a reception to immediately follow in the Great Hall. In lieu of flowers, Kenny would have liked contributions made in his memory go to Hamilton County Special Olympics or Great Lakes Westie Rescue.
