Leonard T. Gilman

May 9, 1938 — July 6, 2017

Leonard Theodore Gilman, age 86, formerly of New Richmond, Ohio, left this life on Thursday, July 6, 2017, with the full understanding of the love that his family had for him.
He was born May 9, 1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The eldest son of Leonard Lawrence and Clara Ann (nee Egbers) Gilman. He graduated from Norwood High School in 1950 and received his Doctorate of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University in 1955. He met and fell deeply in love with Marjorie Ann Seiler while attending Ohio State. They married on September 11, 1954 and so began what would culminate a total of 6 children.
It is fitting that he left us on a Thursday. It was his scheduled "day off" for the 50+ years of his private practices located on Vine Street Downtown Cincinnati, Hyde Park, Mt. Carmel, and as he eased into retirement, OptiCare of Ohio Pike.
Dad spent most every Thursday morning perfecting his golf game then would come home to work/play on the tractor, putter around the garage or barn, basically maintaining the 100 acre woods. He loved being active and enjoyed taking his Cessna out on Sundays. He and Mom enjoyed travel, especially their sailing trips with the Anderson Township crew.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents and in March, 2002, his adoring, faithful wife, Marjorie lost her battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He is survived by his children; Larry (Vicki), Chris (Pagan), Karen (Jerry Frederick) Gilman, Melissa (Brad) Smith, Kathy (Curt) Ballitch and Jenny (Rick) Kleinwachter, 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, his brother, Donald (Barb) Gilman and his loving companion of 14 years, Maridel P. Ely.
Please join us for the Visitation on Monday, July 10th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Evans Funeral Home in Milford. Services will be held 11:00AM, Tuesday, July 11, 2017. Burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Montgomery. If desired, memorials may be made to the Lymphoma Society, Tri State Chapter, 4370 Glendale Milford Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45242.
