Lynne Jean Straley

Lynne Jean Straley, age 82, of Miami Township passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the Bethesda North Hospital in Montgomery, Ohio. She was born October 1, 1935 in Cincinnati, the daughter of Jac and Thelma (nee Nagel) Applegate. She graduated from Mariemont High School and the University of Kentucky, receiving her master's degree in education over the years. She started her career in Washington D.C.at Andrews Air Force Base followed by teaching positions in Turkey and Germany. After returning to Cincinnati, Lynne taught at the Clough Pike Elementary School for 40 plus years. Lynne loved spending time with her husband and their sons' families. She enjoyed getting together with friends dating back to elementary and high school days, playing golf, reading and singing. She was a member of her church choir, Milford First United Methodist Church, for over 25 years and sang at various events with a group of singers led by Pat Matchette. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Denny Straley, stepsons: Scott, Todd (Mary Ann), and Chris (Shannon) Straley, grandchildren: Sara, Sam, Katherine, Grace, Carson, Sophie, sister and brother-in-law: Penny Applegate and Jay Owens, nieces: Buff, Suzy, Becky and Kate. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jac "Biff" Applegate Jr. A memorial service for Lynne is planned at the Milford First United Methodist Church, 541 Main St. at 5:00 PM on January 20, 2018.
