Marcia Jeanne "Marcy" Fisher Dowden
Marcia Jeanne "Marcy" Fisher Dowden, 82, formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2026, at SEM Haven in Milford, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family.
A devoted wife, loving mother, sister, grandmother, dedicated teacher, and treasured friend, Marcy lived a life centered on family, faith, and caring for others. She had a gift for noticing what people needed and finding thoughtful ways to help.
Marcy was born on July 23, 1944, and raised in the Westwood neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. She attended St. Catharine of Siena Grade School, Mother of Mercy High School, and Our Lady of Cincinnati Edgecliff College, earning a bachelor's degree in education. She later attended Butler University, where she earned a master's degree in education.
She met her husband, Steve, on a blind date in 1964 while he was a student at Xavier University, and the rest is history. They were married on July 20, 1968, at St. Catharine of Siena Church. Throughout their 58 years of marriage, Marcy and Steve shared an unwavering devotion to one another, caring for each other through all that life brought their way. They lived in Charleston, South Carolina; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Crane, Indiana, before settling in Indianapolis, where they lived for 50 years before selling their home and returning to Cincinnati in 2022.
Before having children, Marcy taught at St. Aloysius on the Ohio and St. Catharine of Siena schools, both in Cincinnati. After moving to Indianapolis, she taught at St. Roch and Immaculate Heart of Mary schools. She took time away from teaching to raise her three children, volunteering at their school along the way. Her volunteer work eventually led to an opportunity to teach kindergarten at St. Gabriel in Indianapolis, a position she gladly accepted. She continued in that role until retiring in 2006, after a total of 30 years of teaching. Marcy valued the lasting friendships she formed throughout her years of teaching and raising her children.
Growing up as one of eight children, Marcy cherished her large extended family and the laughter, stories, and time they shared together. She carried that same joy into her role as a grandma, happily joining in whatever games or adventures her grandkids asked her to play.
Alzheimer's disease took so much from Marcy over her final years, but it could never erase the love she shared with her family and friends or the memories they will carry with them. Her family is especially grateful to the staff at SEM Haven for the kindness and compassion they showed her during her final year.
Marcy was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Helen (Shoemaker) Fisher; her brother, Al Fisher; her three sisters and their spouses, Helen and Hugh Maguire, Eileen and Leo Naber, and Dotty and Andy Nailor; her sister-in-law, Barbara (Dowden) McCurdy; and her sweet grandson, Grant Wolf.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen Dowden; her three children, Sara (Michael) Wolf, Gregory (Angie) Dowden, and Christopher (Lynn) Dowden; and seven grandchildren, Matthew and Julia Wolf, Marshall and Maggie Dowden, and Colin, Sophie, and Margot Dowden. She is also survived by her siblings, Mary (David) Naehring, Sally (Steve) Enzukewich, and Edward (Jan) Fisher; her sisters-in-law, Mona Fisher and Diana Fisher; her brother-in-law, Bob McCurdy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and Family are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, November 9th from 6-8 PM at John H. Evans Funeral Home in Milford, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday November 10th at 10 AM at St. Andrew Parish in Milford. Burial following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
