In Loving Memory of Marian E. Sullivan
Born on April 4, 1937, in Jennings, FL, Marian E. Sullivan, surrounded by family, peacefully passed away at home October 15, 2024. She will always be remembered for her warm heart and compassionate nature; traits that endeared her to everyone she met.
Marian's career started as a registered nurse at Sunland Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida at age 21. Within months, Marian rose to head nurse. Although Marian had a gift for caregiving, she cherished time with her two girls. Therefore, Marian returned to school where she obtained a bachelor's degree in education from University of North Florida, and set her sights on being a teacher. When Western Brown School District in Brown County, Ohio, offered her a position as school nurse, Marian knew this was the perfect career. In addition to achieving her desire to be home with her children each night, she touched the lives of countless children with her care and compassion, and developed life-long friends. Marian retired in 1997.
Although Marian loved being a school nurse, she found a new sense of joy and self discovery at Lake Lorelei. Marian and her husband Cottrell, moved into the house they built in 1992. Marian joined the Women's Club where she developed additional cherished friendships. In 2010 Marian was awarded an honorary membership. At the lake, Marian had space to pursue her passion of growing flowers, especially her favorite flower, the rose. With such a large yard, a riding lawn mower was purchased by Cottrell. One day, Marian decided to try out the riding lawn mower. After that, Cottrell's duties on mowing day were reduced to weed-eating. The vistas at the lake afforded Marian the opportunity to hone her eye for photography; her scenic photos were included in the lake's yearly calendar.
Marian was an avid cook, and all around her benefited from items such as chicken-n-dumplings and pecan pies. If a neighbor was ill, it would be no time until a full meal arrived at their doorstep, often adorned with a bouquet of roses. Sharing her baked goods and meals were just another way of showering others with love. Her kind and sweet nature left an indelible mark on all those who were fortunate to know her. Marian's selflessness knew no bounds.
Marian is survived by her loving daughters, Diana Cahall and Pam (Cyndi) Masters, her grandson, Dustin (Robyn) Cahall, great-grandchildren Kaleb, Anna and Grace, and her sister Maire Sutton. She is preceded in death by her husband of over 64 years, Cottrell E. Sullivan, her parents, Winston and Zollie Mae Williams, her brothers Joseph Williams and John Paul Williams, and brother-in-law Paul Sutton.
A graveside service honoring Marian's life will be held at Plainview Cemetery on Monday, October 21st beginning at 10 AM, followed by refreshments at Cyndi and Pam's.
Marian's legacy of compassion and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the roses she so adored.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Alzheimer's Association in Marian Sullivan's name.
