Marta (Sidell) Upson
Newport / Ft. Thomas / Milford- Marta (Sidell) Upson, age 73, passed away
peacefully on Friday, January 1, 2021, at The Laurels of Milford with her
daughter Lauren and son-in-law Dave (Altemuehle) at her bedside. Marta had suffered from
Alzheimer's for a number of years but most recently contracted COVID-19 and then pneumonia. Marta was born on October 2, 1947, in Covington, Kentucky, and was the second youngest child of Robert Sidell and Madelaine (Weber) Sidell. She had two older sisters, Lynne (Kramer) and Gail (Palazzolo), one younger sister Melodie (Tarvin), and an older brother, Barry. Marta graduated in 1965 from La Salette Academy in Covington. She married Jamie Upson in 1969, and was a loving mother to her daughter Lauren. At age 51, Marta earned her bachelor's degree in Sociology from Thomas More College. Upon graduation, she went on to work at Greater Cincinnati Behavioral Health as a job coach helping people with mental illness to succeed in the job market. Marta was always looking for ways to help people. Marta enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren Matt and Ben Altemuehle along with listening to music and singing. Marta spent her last three years in Milford living at Sem-Villa and The Laurels, where she made many friends and was provided exceptional care as her Alzheimer's progressed.
Marta is survived by her daughter Lauren, who lovingly cared for her during her illness, son-in-law Dave, her grandchildren Matt and Ben, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Family, friends and anyone else whose lives Marta touched are invited to her Celebration of Life at Rivertree Church located at 5857 Highview Drive, Milford, Ohio, 45150, on Saturday, January 16, for a visitation from 10 to 11:30 a.m., with a service at 11:30 a.m. Masks and social distancing required.
