Mary Saylor

May 4, 1950 — November 11, 2018

Mary Saylor passed away November 10, 2018 after a protracted battle with cancer. She passed away quietly in her home surrounded by loved ones. She leaves behind her husband Bobby Eugune Saylor, her two sons Bobby and Jon, her grand daughter Lilith whom she absolutely adored, her surviving brothers Elzie Rapier, Bradley Rapier, Grover Cupp, sister Norma Jean Snellings and countless other family members and friends. She was 68 years old.

Mary Saylor was born May 4, 1950 in Miracle, Kentucky. She was the youngest daughter out of a family of eight children. She was born to Robert Wesley Rapier and Myrtle Pittman Rapier in the heart of coal country. Her impoverished childhood shaped her into someone with good values and a strong work ethic.

In 1969, she met Bobby Saylor, her soulmate, best friend, and the man who would later become her husband. In 1970, she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio with her husband Bobby to create a better life for her family than the holler could offer. She started her career at several area hospitals working as a medical transcriptionist. In the early 1980's, she worked for LENSCRAFTERS during their national expansion as a regional construction manager. She excelled in her job and later was awarded the entire national territory. In 2000, she began a new phase of her career in retail owning and operating the JUST 4 YOU gift stores in the Eastgate and Northgate Malls. In 2008, she left retail and worked with her husband as a Precious Metals Dealer, a job they both loved and did until their retirement together in 2012.
After retirement, they both wanted to travel together. It was during this time that they fell in love with the Hawaiian Islands, its culture, people, and its beauty. They were fortunate enough to visit the islands 6 times together and with other family. There they found a peace and serenity they could find no where else.

Mary had a vivacious personality could lift even the the most downhearted spirit and she had an outlook that could disarm even the worst situation. There was always a silver lining with Mary and her perpetual optimism gave everyone around her strength. Her quick wit and sometimes irreverent sense of humor were a constant in her life that made her instantly likeable to everyone she met.
In the face of life's challenges, she was a picture of strength and a straight shooter. She was never afraid to speak her mind and could be downright fiery when defending those that she loved. In fact, Mary always put her family first and would have done anything for them. If you were important to Mary, you knew it and she would stick with you through thick and thin. You could have never had a better advocate and never one more loyal. Above all else, she was a devoted wife, an excellent mother , wonderful Grandmother, and a great friend to anyone that knew her.

She instilled in her family the values of strength, love, loyalty, and mercy. Although she did not belong to a church, she never downplayed the importance of God in her life and the lives of her family. In July of this year, she was baptized by Pastor Larry Taylor of Dillonvale.
