Michael Allen Williams, was a husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Michael passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, in Anderson Township, Ohio. He was born on June 6, 1943, in Columbus, Ohio, and lived most of his adult life in Northeastern Ohio with his wife and kids. Michael served his country during Vietnam in the US Marine Corps.
Michael was a graduate of the Columbus College of Art & Design and worked as a Gemologist and Jeweler, he had passion for precious stones and this is reflected in his work. In addition, he enjoyed the natural world that surrounded him; it was not unusual for him to pick up a unique looking rock to keep and give to his grandkids telling them about the rock and how it was formed. Later in life Michael went into the realm of higher education where he served proudly as a teaching assistant at Oberlin College to the Physics Department working with them at the Oberlin Observatory where he worked with with many students through the years introducing them to the beauty of the night sky and how to work with telescopes.
Michael loved Classical Music, Opera and other varying artist throughout the years. Michael had a love of history, science and travel; he could be found at any given time listening to music, reading or watching the latest programs on varying subjects and interests and was always willing and ready to talk about the program or facts he learned. Michael continued throughout his life to learn all that he could and be curious. He was an avid amateur astronomer who spent many nights at Spencer Lake with fellow astronomers taking in the night sky with his music, Pepsi and chocolate bars. He loved to go to Astronomy Conventions and talk the night sky with his fellow astronomers. Michael cherished the simple pleasures in life like walking and taking in nature while listening to his favorite music, reading the Sunday paper, or spending time with his wife, kids, family, neighbors and friends at family gatherings, parties and picnics.
Michael is survived by his loving son Eric (Michelle) Williams, his loving daughter Nikki (Carl) Williams, and his cherished grandchildren Alex (Jackie) Williams and Maddox Seward. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Kira and Abby Williams. In addition, Michael is survived by his brother Don Williams and sister JoAn Phillippi along with many nieces and nephews, who will carry his memory with them always. Michael was a loving husband to Rita P. Williams for 59 years before her passing in January 2025. Michael was also preceded in death by: his parents Edgar and Isabel Williams.
As we remember Michael Allen Williams, we find comfort in the legacy of knowledge he leaves behind for those of us who encountered Michael we will all always appreciate the night sky and look up to the stars and smile. Michael now has the best seat to view his beloved heavens and the wonderful phenomenon of the the stars and galaxies. He will be remembered for his strength and strong spirit and will forever be in our hearts.
A graveside service to honor Mike will take place June 12, 2026 at 10:00AM at Mt Moriah Cemetery, if you wish to honor Micheal with a donation please consider The Parkinson's Foundation or The Michael J. Fox Parkinsons Foundation in his name.
