Muriel Quammen Cunningham

March 14, 1940 — January 20, 2025

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Muriel Quammen Cunningham on January 20, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on March 14, 1940, in Milroy, Minnesota, to the late Lloyd and Arlene (nee Beebout) Lewis. Muriel lived a life marked by selflessness, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to the betterment of others.

Muriel dedicated 30 years of her life to education, inspiring countless students as a teacher at Milford Exempted Village Schools from 1970 - 2000, where she served as the department head of English. When she was on summer break from teaching, Muriel spent her time as a real estate agent with Yvonne Height Real Estate and then later Coldwell Banker. After her time at Milford and while being semi-retired, Muriel continued her academic journey as a professor at Miami University and later at the University of Cincinnati, where her love for literature and education flourished further. Her passion for teaching was evident in her encouraging words and supportive nature, which left a lasting impression on her students and colleagues alike.

Muriel's compassion extended into her community, where she volunteered every Friday at the Save The Animals Foundation for many years. Her devotion to animal welfare was a testament to her caring spirit and her belief in making the world a better place for all living beings.

Muriel was the beloved wife of 34 years to the late Edward C. Cunningham. She is survived by her loving daughter, Kristi Lewis and her bonus daughter Dr. Jennifer Quammen. Dear sister-in-law of Leona and Ronnie Holley. Along with her husband and parents, Muriel is preceded in death by her brothers Kenneth Lewis and Donald Lewis.

Funeral services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Muriel Arlene Cunningham will be deeply missed. Her family and friends have lost a kind, strong, beautiful spirit who gave herself over and over to those in need and stood up for those who needed a champion.
