Oakie L. Sallee, age 86, passed away on August 28, 2024. He was born in Frenchburg, Kentucky to Stanley and Ila Sallee. He spent most of his life in Middletown and Cincinnati, Ohio. He was married to the love of his life, Marilyn, for over 65 years. He spent his entire career in the paper industry, starting as a laborer at Harding Jones Paper Company, while attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He was involved in all aspects of the business, being named President and CEO at age 39. Later, he joined Fox River Paper Company as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for both domestic and international sales. He retired in 2003. After that, he continued to consult in the paper industry.
Oakie held many business and civic positions. He was the past President of Ohio Technical Pulp and Paper Industry, Paper Industry Management Association and ESMA. He was also an honorary Life Member of the Engravers Association. While in Middletown, he served on the Board of Directors of the YMCA, The Middletown Hospital, Brown's Run Country Club, The First Baptist Church, and Rotary Club.
Oakie was Chairman of the Middletown United Way Campaign, and proudly exceeded their annual goal. He also served his country, spending 6 years in the Air National Guard.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his two children, Cynthia (Mike) Barton, and Andrew (Julie) Sallee. Oakie is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael Barton, Jr., Katherine Barton, Ella Sallee and Andrew Sallee Jr..He is also survived by his brother, Darrell Sallee.
There will be a private graveside service. A Celebration of Life will be at a later date.
