It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Philip Ivan Bixler, a beloved son, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. Philip was born on September 6, 1950, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and departed this world peacefully on August 5, 2025. He lived a life marked by resilience, creativity, and deep connections with those around him.
Philip's journey began in Cincinnati, but his spirit carried him far and wide. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge in December 1973. Philip's commitment to service defined a part of his character-one that later blossomed into his steadfast work as a steelworker. He was a proud member of the union, where his tenacity and dedication were well recognized by his peers.
Beyond his professional life, Philip became known as a masterful tattoo artist, leaving his mark-not only through ink on skin but also through the stories and connections he forged with each of his clients. His creativity flourished in every aspect of his life, from the art he created to the friendships he nurtured.
Philip cherished the simple pleasures of life, often found enjoying a cold beer and savoring a fine cigar during moments of relaxation. He had a knack for storytelling, often bringing laughter and warmth to gatherings with his family and friends. A proud father, he is survived by his son, Joshua (Amber) Bixler, step daughter Shannon (Zeb) Smyth as well as his cherished grandchildren, Christian Dotson, Georgia, Wyatt, and Aidan Smyth. Philip will also be dearly missed by his brothers, Donnie, Tommie, and William Bixler, who shared many adventures and memories with him throughout his life.
In honor of Philip's remarkable life, graveside services will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 at 9:00AM in Goshen Cemetery, Goshen, Ohio where family and friends will gather to celebrate his legacy and share stories of the profound impact he had on all who knew him.
As we reflect on Philip's life, we remember a man who embraced every moment with fervor and authenticity-a tattooed soul who wore his heart on his sleeve and left an indelible mark on our lives. He will be forever remembered with love and affection, and his spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
