Rebecca White Patterson (Becky) succumbed to pancreatic cancer on Friday, December 16, 2022. Becky was born in 1942 to Wayne and Iola White of Connersville, Indiana, where her father was the International Harvester dealer. When she was eight years old the family moved to a farm her father bought near Connersville, where she and her siblings enjoyed riding ponies, raising pigs and beef steers for 4-H, and country living. At age 16 she took a job at Connersville Memorial Hospital, where she learned to do laboratory tests and worked in the laboratory after school and on Saturdays. She graduated Connersville High School and attended Indiana University, majoring in medical technology and interning at the IU Medical Center in Indianapolis. After graduation she was hired by Lilly in Indianapolis as a chemist at the Lilly Clinic at Marion County General Hospital, a position she held for nine and a half years. After her husband’s job transfer to Cincinnati in 1973, she joined Proctor & Gamble in 1979 and worked in research and development for 33 years until her retirement.
Becky enjoyed an active life. She belonged to Loveland’s Junior Women’s Club and served as president. She was an active member of Armstrong Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a Stephen Minister, served on various committees and hosted Interfaith Hospitality Network guests. She mentored children in Youth Collaborative and hosted visitors for the International Visitors Council. In retirement, she became a member and president of P.E.O/Chapter AO, which supports education for women through scholarships and loans. She enjoyed reading and participated in a book club for 47 years. She also enjoyed walking and 5k runs, skiing in her early days and tennis until her cancer was diagnosed.
Her children and their families were the loves of her life. She is survived by a son, Chris Patterson, daughter-in-law Erin, and granddaughters Lilly, Aubrey and Emily; A daughter, Ginger Patterson, and grandson Andrew Johnson and granddaughter Amanda Johnson. She is also survived by her siblings Robert (Elizabeth) White, Andrea (Brad) Baetsle, Billie (Jim) Bertch, and Wayne (Barbara) White, nine nieces and five nephews, all of whom she was very close.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Armstrong Chapel United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Donations may be made to Armstrong Chapel UMC, Inter Parish Ministry, or Interfaith Hospitality Network. (Found at bottom of page)
