In Loving Memory of Richard Louis "Dick" Aker

Richard Louis "Dick" Aker, departed this life and entered into the presence of Christ, his Savior, on March 13th, 2026.

Dick was born November 23, 1937, in Monroeville (Flat Rock), Indiana, to the Reverend William and Esther (Ullman) Aker. He joined three older siblings in the parsonage of St. John Lutheran Church (LCMS), where his father served as minister. When Dick was just nine months old, his father's sudden death led the family to move to Cincinnati, where they received immeasurable support from his father's relatives and their local church, Saint Paul Lutheran Church. His mother worked tirelessly for years to raise her family, and in gratitude and devotion Dick remained faithful to providing a home for his mother for forty years.

Even as a young boy Dick had a strong work ethic, helping this grandfather with gardening jobs, cutting grass, raking leaves, and working the fields at a farm produce business. While serving 6 years in the Army Reserves, Dick began his career with Cincinnati Gas & Electric, where he worked for many years in the Substation Building Maintenance Department. Dick was well liked and respected by coworkers and he valued these work relationships deeply, both during his working years and long into retirement.

In retirement, he enjoyed managing his rental property, tending his garden, spending time on his boat, enjoying his two vintage cars, and providing a loving home for many dogs. He was quite a story-teller and appreciated an audience. His sense of humor was evident when he won a prize for dressing his chihuahua as a Cincinnati Reds ballplayer.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Anna Aker Littmann of Middletown, Ohio, and Virginia Aker Rempe of Bedminster, NJ, and by his brother, Frederick William Aker of Ocala, Florida. Dick is fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews.

The family sincerely thanks his friends and coworkers for their prayers and visits during his hospitalization, and the nurses and staff at Hospice of Cincinnati for their understanding, excellent care and compassion. In memory of Dick, the family welcomes memorial donations to Hospice of Cincinnati. https://hospiceofcincinnati.org/

Jesus said..."I am the resurrection and the life; the one who believes in Me will live, even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25-26) In Dick's final days, as family members gathered at his bedside to pray with him, it was evident that God had preserved him faithful in this belief.
