Richard Arthur Evans

August 16, 1960 — October 14, 2023

Evans, Richard Arthur, 63, of Milford, passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, at Bethesda North Hospital in Montgomery after a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He battled his illness bravely since his diagnosis in August.

Rick was born Aug. 16, 1960, in Cincinnati, to Dennie and Judy (Harff) Evans. He graduated from Norwood High School in 1978. After graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force and served with distinction until 1982 at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, achieving the rank of Sergeant as a Carpentry Specialist. His dedication to excellence was evident as he earned numerous awards, including the Air Force Good Conduct Award, Air Force Longevity Service Award and an Air Force Training Ribbon.

After his honorable discharge Rick joined the Norwood Fire Department in May 1983 as a firefighter and soon after became an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). He was later promoted to the role of Fire Apparatus Operator (FAO) in February 1993. Rick served for 30 years until his retirement in June 2013. He also dedicated time for several years as the treasurer of the Firefighters Union Local 445.

Rick was a devoted member of Holy Trinity parish and volunteered at the annual festival. He dedicated his time and workmanship to the creation of children's games. Rick's craftsmanship also extended to the creation of numerous gifts for Holy Trinity School’s craft fair. He had a passion for coaching his sons’ little league sports and was a faithful supporter of Roger Bacon High School and Boy Scouts of America Troop 9.

He was a diehard Cincinnati sports fan and held Bengals season tickets for 10 years. Rick spent every Sunday cheering on the orange and black. He’s still waiting for them to win a Super Bowl ring. Rick was a talented handyman and had dozens of satisfied clients and friends over many years. He always enjoyed boating, camping and traveling.

Rick married his beloved wife Linda Williams on Oct. 19, 1985. They shared 38 years together and raised two sons, Bradley and Andrew.

He is survived by Linda, Brad (Thomas Maltese) and Drew (Marisa Jones), his mother, Judy, his sisters Robin Evans and Holly (Mike) Ostendorf and several other loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. Rick is preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will take place Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church on Montgomery Road in Norwood. A funeral Mass will immediately follow.
