It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Harold Lakes, affectionately known as "Rich". A beloved husband, father, and friend, who departed this world on September 24, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on October 17, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Richard was known for his vibrant personality, warmth, and humor that touched the lives of many.
Rich proudly served in the United States Air Force from March 14, 1966, until March 13, 1970, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his military service, he dedicated his professional life to maintenance engineering in various hospitals and working for Glass Coatings. Following retirement, Rich worked at the Oasis Golf Club for 16 years.
An enthusiastic golfer, Rich had the honor of playing at the historic Old Course in Scotland. He celebrated his retirement by visiting his daughter in Florida, where he achieved his first hole-in-one at Summerfield Crossings Golf Club-an event that he cherished deeply. Rich's passion for sports extended beyond golf; he spent many years as an official for football and basketball, dedicating over 35 years to these beloved games. He also enjoyed coaching baseball, softball, and basketball, inspiring many young athletes with his positive spirit.
Rich had a deep affection for Notre Dame Football and University of Kentucky Basketball, showcasing his spirited nature and loyalty to his teams. Known for his great sense of humor, Rich's presence always brought joy to those around him. He was never a stranger to anyone, and his kind-hearted demeanor and infectious smile will be profoundly missed.
Rich was the beloved husband of 20 years to Debby Lakes; Loving father of Tracey (John) Foley, Trisha (Rob Tuttle) Lakes, and his step-children Timothy Wall and Andrew (Amanda) Wall; Cherished grandpa of Addyson and Austin Wall; Dear brother of Diane (Tom) Powers and Debbie (Rick) Powers; Rich is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Friends and family are invited to honor Rich's life and legacy during his funeral services. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Evans Funeral Home in Milford, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM. A burial will take place, after which a celebration of life will be hosted at The Oasis Golf Club, a fitting tribute to a man who cherished the game and embraced his community with open arms.
Memorial donations can be made in Rich's name to the American Cancer Society.
