Robert “Bob” Ray beloved husband of 37 years to Donna Ray passed away on October 14, 2022 at the age of 86 in his home surrounded by family. His recent battle with a serious medical issue showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite these challenges, Bob came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
Bob was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 20, 1936. Bob attended Purcell High School and after graduation joined the United States Navy on July 26,1954. He served 3 years in the Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Steinaker. He later attended University of Cincinnati and received his degree in Chemical Engineering. Bob spent 31 years with Ford Motor Company as a Mechanical Engineer.
Additionally, Bob dedicated his life to the American Legion for 56 years; serving as Department Commander from 1991-1992. He was a patriotic man and devoted a lot of his time to the Veterans and various VA programs in Ohio and around the country. He spent a year visiting VA hospitals in the US with the C.A.R.E.S. program.
In addition to his wife Donna he leaves his children: Debbie Ray, Jerry Ray, Terry Ray(Ann) and Larry Ray(Priscilla), Robert Pettit(Billie). 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his fury companion, Emma Rose. Bob was preceded in death by his son Robert “Bobby” Ray Jr., his parents Clarence and Nell Ray, and his brother Tom.
In his earlier years, Bob was an avid bowler and often bowled in many leagues at Strikes & Spares. In fact, this was where he met his wife Donna. They both shared a great love of bowling, traveling, volunteering, and garage sales.
Family will receive friends at Evans Funeral Home, Milford, on Thursday, October 20th from 3 PM until time of services beginning at 6 PM. Committal services will be held on Friday at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 11 AM.
