Roberta Ann Thomas Our dear mother lovingly remembered, Roberta Ann Thomas, passed away peacefully with her son beside her on Thursday, September 1st 2022, at the age of 84 years old. On July 24, 1938 mom was born to our grandparents, Raymond R. DeWeese and Minnie Katherine DeWeese on July 24th 1938, in Arlington Heights, Ohio.

Roberta met, fell in love and was married to Peter John Thomas in 1960. After 39 years of marriage, her beloved husband Peter succeeded her in death in 1999. She is survived by their three children: Daniel Ray Thomas, Christine Royal and Victoria Katherine Thomas. As the youngest of six siblings, Roberta has one surviving brother, Robert DeWeese. She also is survived by four grandchildren: John Thomas, CarolAnn Thomas, Gabriel Royal and Zachary Royal. She adored her great grandson: Caleb Bryant Royal.

Our mother, Roberta, was known as the “miracle child.” Born extremely premature in 1938, she weighed less than two pounds. Before the days of modern care in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), there were no incubators for temperature-controlled beds so doctors did not believe she would survive. Our grandfather didn’t give up. He took her home, placed his daughter in a shoebox with a light bulb and fed her with and eyedropper. Her miracle in life created our miracle in life as well as our children and grandchildren!

Most importantly, our mother was a strong believer in Jesus Christ as the Son of God. She raised us with an uncompromising faith that continues to provide the foundation for our personal lives and the way we treat others. She truly embodied the words of James, the brother of Jesus when he said; “So then faith that doesn’t involve action is phony.” All who knew her spoke of the generosity of her faith in action.
