Rossalynn Louise Eckman Foster, age 83, of Milford, died Monday March 13, 2023.
Rossalynn leaves behind her son, Solomon Foster (Jennifer Foster); her daughter, Sarah Foster (Darin Glass); her brother John Clifford Eckman (Carol Eckman) and her sister Virginia Scheer (R. Thomas Scheer); two grandchildren she utterly adored, Lily and Henry; and extended family she held dear including Molly J. Eckman, beloved cousin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Moore Foster, her parents, Karl Eckman and Louise Altman Eckman, and her sister, Carla Eckman Pyle.
Rossalynn was a graduate of Milford High School. She earned her undergraduate degree at Purdue University and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She received her Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling at the University of Michigan where she met her husband. She taught Advanced Math, Chemistry, and Physics, both in Ohio and in Michigan, and eventually served as Bob’s secretary at his law office in Marine City, MI.
Rossalynn and Bob were married in the Milford First United Methodist church in 1966. They spent 50 years together, settling in East China along the St. Clair River, where she fried fish and watched the freighters and football. She developed a late-in-life love of St. Simon’s Island, GA. She happily moved back to Milford in 2019, where she was blessed with time spent with family, friends, hummingbirds, and herons.
She was a magician with a needle and thread (or yarn), making beautiful things or mending old ones. She forged wonderful, treasured friendships with fellow hand crafters. She never met a stranger and worried greatly that you might be hungry or cold. She was not known to be quiet; she loved to laugh and had a cheery disposition right to the very end.
She was a lifelong Girl Scout— from Brownie to board member. She loved a good tea party, books of all kinds, dressing her dolls, and playing cards, laughing all the way.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Milford First United Methodist Church - 541 Main Street, Milford, OH 45150. A celebration of life will follow beginning at 11:00 AM.
In her memory, wear blue, call a friend, or get a hummingbird swing. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Girl Scouts or Milford First United Methodist Church choir or the Cincinnati Nature Center. (Links at bottom of page)
