Russell Ignatius Evans

Russell Ignatius Evans, age 90, passed away Wednesday February 3, 2021. He was born November 15, 1930 to Estella May (Coleman) and Charles Henry Evans in a home in Fayetteville, Ohio.

Preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Ursula Mae (Houk) and five older siblings, Charlotte, Raymond, Charles, John, and James. He is survived by his daughters Paula and Carla (husband James Roark), son Daniel, grandchildren Zachary and Samantha, godson Francis Sheehy, and several nieces and nephews.

Russell was a Technical Sergeant in United States Air Force (4 years) and a computer operations manager for General Electric (35 years). In the Air Force he was an aircraft mechanic and for GE he worked on nuclear aircraft engines, the NASA Apollo Space Program, and International time-sharing supercomputers. These endeavors took Russell and his family to Louisiana, Ohio (Cincinnati), New York, Florida, Texas, Ohio (Cleveland), Maryland and back to Ohio for his retirement years.

Russell grew up during the Great Depression before there was electricity and running water on the farm his family lived on. He believed in hard work and helping others achieve their goals. He was a dedicated husband, dependable and kind father, a loving and generous grandfather, and always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors. He had a great sense of humor and was a typical mischievous boy growing up in Fayetteville.

A Christian Burial officiated by Reverend Thomas Bolte will be held at 11:30 A.M. Saturday February 6, 2021 at the St. Angela Merici Parish - St. Patrick Cemetery on Anderson State Road, Fayetteville, OH 45118. Military honors will be performed by Southwest Ohio Memorial Team followed by Amazing Grace on bagpipes by Gerry Kelly Fritsch.

A celebration of life will be arranged at a later date. Information will be posted here when arrangements are finalized.
