Sarah Cornelia "Connie" (Scoggins) Ward, 87, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, artist, entrepreneur, and faithful friend, passed away unexpectedly on July 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and kindness that will continue through generations.
Born on October 1, 1938 in Goldsboro, North Carolina, to Ray and Bertha Scoggins, Connie lived a life defined by faith, creativity, adventure, and an unwavering devotion to the people she loved. She is now reunited with her parents; her sister, Patricia Jenkins; her brother, Grey Scoggins, and her grandson Christopher all of whom preceded her in death.
Connie's greatest love story began in church, where she was a member of Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church in Mount Lebanon, PA. She met the love of her life, Ralph, when they were children, friends in seventh grade, sweethearts by eighth grade, and they were married on June 4, 1960. Together they shared 66 wonderful years of marriage filled with laughter, faith, travel, and an enduring love that inspired everyone around them. They lived all over the US throughout Ralph's work career. Those hometowns were: East Lansing, Michigan, Mount Lebanon & McMurray, Pennsylvania; Bowling Green, Ohio, Fresno, Danville & Huntington Beach, California and finally settling in the Cincinnati area back in 1993, this has been their most favorite hometown and their forever home. They had a second home for many years in Bath, Maine, Connie loved boating and all the people of Maine. It became their summer home for many years. They traveled the world together, creating memories everywhere from Europe to Thailand, Fiji, and Samoa, always embracing new adventures side by side.
After graduating from Mt. Lebanon High School, Connie attended Southern Seminary in Virginia and later continued her education with courses at Michigan State University.
A gifted designer with an entrepreneurial spirit, Connie founded Sarah's Interiors, turning her passion for beauty and design into a successful business she was incredibly proud of. An accomplished watercolor artist whose creativity touched every part of her life and every home she made. Some of her accomplishments were the restoration and remodeling of a 1807 home in Bath, Maine and design, construction of homes in Ivy Hills and TPC Riversbend.
Her love of style and clothing was supported by a career at Chico's, Talbot's and Williams Sonoma for many years, and she loved working with her customers. In the 80's she worked in operations for Western Digital. Early in her marriage worked for a physician and dental office. But her most favorite job was being a mom.
Connie lived passionately and never hesitated to become involved in the causes she believed in. Disciplined and deeply convicted in everything she pursued, she loved politics and enthusiastically volunteered at Republican National Convention events, TPC tournaments, WAABI, and the Mary Jo Cropper Breast Foundation. Whether serving her community or encouraging those around her, she did everything wholeheartedly.
She had many passions throughout her life. She loved sailing, horseback riding during her college years, golfing, singing in the church choir, and cooking unforgettable meals for family and friends. Her warmth, hospitality, and artistic eye made everyone feel welcome.
Above all, Connie cherished her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Ralph; her children, Sarah "Beth" Ward-Haddan (Jill), David Ward (Cindy), and Patricia "Tricia" Reynolds (Shawn); her beloved grandchildren Sarah Ward-Haddan (Adolfo), Alison Ward-Haddan(Anthony), Jocelyn Ward-Hadden, Abbigail Kern (Steven), Axel, Patience, Emerson, Kyimonni, Krystal Franke (Zach), William Reynolds (Lex), Jack Reynolds, Christopher, Matthew, Stephanie Watts (Cole), and Davey; and all of her cherished great-grandchildren Wiley, Leo, Noah, Olive, River, Ruby, Legend, and Bayne, with one precious great-grandchild expected soon. Nothing brought Connie greater joy than watching her family grow through the generations.
Connie's legacy is one of grace, determination, creativity, generosity, and unconditional love. She leaves behind a family who adored her, friends who were blessed by her kindness, and countless memories that will be treasured forever. Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her faith, her laughter, her artistic spirit, and the love she poured into others will continue to inspire generations to come.
