Spicer William (Bill) Smith , 91, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away on October 13, 2025, at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born on January 3, 1934, in Springfield, Ohio to the late Spicer Smith and Ethel (Markin) Smith. Bill graduated from Northwestern High School in 1953. After graduating, he married the love of his life, Helen Errett, on December 16, 1955, in Lawrenceville, Ohio.
Bill loved his family and took care of them all with everything he had. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage and taking care of his yard and garden . An active sportsman himself, he also enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all of their games and competitions, with pride and butterscotch candies for all. Bill was an Army Veteran and traveled to places like Germany. He worked 30 years at Navistar then enjoyed his retirement with his family.
Bill is survived by his children, daughter Vicki (Lou) Fichter, and his son Gregory (Lori) Smith, 8 grandchildren, John (Christine), Sarah, Matthew, Preston, Hope, Alex (Cheyenne); 9 great grandchildren Carter, Kennedy, William, Daniel, Brien, Locklan, Aidan, Renae, Emma; sister Dolly Holbert, sister-in-law Charlotte Errett, as well as many nieces and nephews, and his special new buddy Rex.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Helen of 68 years; granddaughter Megan Smith; grandson Lucas Smith; brother in law Donald Errett, sisters in law Eileen (Wilbur) Rice, Norma Jean (Edward) Wade, Mary Lou (Jack) Mitchell; son in law Louis Fichter; nephew Keith Mitchell; and nieces Nancy and Debbie Errett.
Arrangements have been made to Evans Funeral Home.
