Tommy Swearingen

August 13, 1947 — January 16, 2026

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Tommy Lavelle Swearingen on January 16, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on August 13, 1947, in Wilmington, OH, to the late Glenn and Mary (nee Flint) Swearingen. Tommy spent his life in service to his family, community, and country, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication.

Tommy was a true patriot who enlisted in the Army on September 20, 1966, and proudly served until his discharge on September 19, 1968, achieving the rank of Specialist 4. His commitment to his country and to his fellow veterans was evident through his involvement in Veterans Day services, where he proudly honored those who served alongside him.

Tommy worked for over 40 years at Keebler Confectionary & Bakery, and often would explain his job by telling others he was a "Keebler Elf mechanic," sharing smiles and laughter with everyone he encountered.

Family meant everything to Tommy. He cherished his wife, Linda Swearingen, with whom he shared over 50 beautiful years of marriage, and he took immense pride in his children and his grandchildren. Always seeking to brighten the lives of those around him, Tommy was known for his unforgettable sense of humor and his knack for playfully joking with friends and family, often leaving them in fits of laughter.

Tommy had a passion for collecting Hot Wheels, eagles, and flags, and he held a special fondness for his 1951 Chevy fastback. He found joy in trips to Tennessee, where he reveled in the beauty of the mountains, and he had a heartwarming admiration for Dolly Parton's music.

Tommy was the beloved husband of over 50 years to Linda Swearingen (nee Elbrecht); Loving father of Tammy Rena (Arthur Jr.) Heagy, Dawn Marie (Jon) Carpenter, Kimberly Ann Sheangshang, the late Mary Michele Hopkins, and the late Alan Scott "Scooter" Swearingen; Dear grandfather of Tony (Olivia), Andrew (Ashleigh), Avery, Ashton, Arielle, Kyle, Shelby, J.T., Faith, Justin (Jennifer), Destiny, Katelyn, and the late Walker; Great grandfather of Maci, Brandie, Sylviah, Jamison, Jace, Jayden, Liam, and Riley; Dear brother of Deanie Collier. Tommy is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Along with his parents, daughter, son, and grandson, Tommy is preceded in death by his siblings Mary Ann Cardwell, Florence Taylor, Janelle Rice, and Helen Sexton.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Tommy's remarkable life on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Evans Funeral Home in Milford, beginning at 1:30 PM.
