Tonia Bryant Thompson

Tonia Bryant Thompson, 63, of Cincinnati, OH passed into Heaven on June 21, 2023 at Mercy Hospital in Anderson Twp., OH after a long-term illness. She is pre-deceased by her beloved mother, Sylvia Melton. She is survived by her husband, William, of Cincinnati, OH, son Sean Ryan Garbutt, grandson Kingston Garbutt, and daughter Kelly Brianne Garbutt, all of Columbia, SC, her father, Ronnie Bryant, Sr., and brother Ron Bryant, Jr. (Samantha) both of Graniteville, SC, nephew Cory Bryant (Mary Elizabeth) of Aiken, SC, and niece Julianne Bryant of Graniteville, SC.

Tonia was an avid reader and a true student of history, completing her Master’s Degree in History from the Univ. of South Carolina – Aiken with a specialization in early American history from the Colonial Period through the Civil War. If she wasn’t reading about history, she was watching a documentary about a topic from history. She also loved coffee, cats, and her beloved South Carolina Gamecocks.

Per her wishes, there will be no formal services. Her cremains will be returned to her family in South Carolina for later disposition per her wishes. In lieu of flowers, Tonia would appreciate your considering making a small contribution to one of the following:

1)     Any literacy program. Tonia loved to read and believed in the power of the written word.

2)     Your local public television station. Tonia was a frequent watcher of public TV, particularly documentaries and programs about history. She believed that one should never stop learning something new.
