It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Walter "Dean" Baese, who departed this life on June 8, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on August 10, 1950, in Kansas City, Missouri, Dean was a beloved brother, uncle, and friend. He spent his early years in Kansas City before relocating to Rochester, New York, as a teenager. Throughout his life, he embodied kindness, devotion, and an unwavering faith.
Dean is survived by his loving sister, Diane Buckley, and brother-in-law, Tom Buckley. He was a cherished uncle to Kristen Depoi and Tom (Carrie) Buckley, and a proud great-uncle to Logan Buckley, Jaxon Buckley, Kelsey (Collin) Mellendorf, and Emma Depoi. He is also survived by great-great-nieces and nephews, Louden, Brooks, and Miles Mellendorf. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter William Baese and Verna Louise Greenfield.
Known affectionately as Dean to his family and friends, he later adopted the name Walt in honor of his father after his passing. Dean was a devoted churchgoer, finding great joy in volunteering for the children's ministry and lending a helping hand during vacation Bible school. His culinary talents were well-known among family gatherings and church events, where his famous cookies, delicious salad and delightful ziti captured the hearts (and taste buds) of many.
A passionate Buffalo Bills fan, Dean relished the thrill of the game, especially when it came to match-ups against the Kansas City Chiefs. He also enjoyed umpiring baseball for local high schools and colleges, contributing to the sports community in New York.
Dean later moved to Milford, Ohio, where he continued to thrive in his vibrant church community, teaching others about the love of Jesus with passion and compassion.
Funeral services for Walter "Dean" Baese will be held at New Hope Baptist Church in Loveland. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery.
In this time of remembrance, let us celebrate Dean's life and the legacy of love and kindness he leaves behind. His spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, dear Dean. You will be greatly missed.
