It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of William "Bill" E.Grothaus on May 4, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on October 15, 1934, in Newport, Kentucky, to the late Cyril and Elinor (nee Walsh) Grothaus.
A man of many passions, Bill's love for golf and gardening brought him happiness and tranquility. He was known as the "dad of the neighborhood," often playing with the local children and sharing stories that delighted listeners of all ages. His animated storytelling, filled with vibrant details, captured the hearts of everyone around him.
Bill had a profound love for his family, and he treasured capturing moments in photographs during family outings. An enthusiastic writer and journaler, he documented his adventures and reflections with great care. His spirit of adventure was complemented by a deep appreciation for music, dancing to the rhythms of the 1940's and 1950's Big Band music whenever the opportunity arose.
His positivity and generosity of heart were evident in all aspects of his life. For over 20 years, Bill generously volunteered his time to tutor children in literacy and math, touching countless lives in the process. His devotion to his faith as a steadfast Catholic was central to his identity, as he participated in various church organizations, embodying the principles of love and service.
Bill was married to his late wife, Beverly Grothaus, for 56 wonderful years, creating a legacy of love and family. In the years that followed, he found joy and companionship in his marriage to Emma George-Grothaus, with whom he shared 13 loving years. Bill was the loving father of Lois (Jim) McDonough, Don George, Cathy (Kevin) Holden, Douglas (Julie) George, Dennis (LeighAnn) George, and Darren (Amy) George; Cherished grandfather of Mandy (Matt), Luke (Kirsten), Dominick (Jessica), Ross (Kate), Madelyn, Louis, Adam, Samuel, and James; Great grandfather of Lucy, Hope, Liam, Owen, Jackson, and Colton.
Along with his wife Beverly and parents, Bill is preceded in death by his siblings Ruth, Tommy, Eileen, and Jack.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Evans Funeral Home - Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held the next morning on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony of Padua, Maronite Catholic Church - 2530 Victory Pkwy, Cincinnati, OH 45206. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Bill's memory to the Hospice of Cincinnati or St. Vincent De Paul - St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.
In his passing, William leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness that will forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
