William "Bill" Albert Schroeder, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on June 11, 1942, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Bill grew up in the mountains of Northern California near Garberville, where he developed his love of adventure and the great outdoors.
Bill's life was heavily influenced by his service as a Radar Repairman in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. His technical knowledge and work ethic did not go unnoticed, as he received commendations for his service. After completing his enlistment in 1970, he went on to become a talented Project Engineer and methods analyst at AT&T, where he contributed his skills and passion for engineering to many successful projects.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill was known for his vibrant spirit and zest for life. An avid ham radio operator, call WS6K, formerly WD6ADM, he could always be found connected with friends near and far, sharing tales of his adventures. Bill was also a comitted volunteer rescue diver for San Mateo County for several years, a role that showcased his commitment to helping others. He continued to support emergency services and law enforcement by participating in ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service), RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service, and Miami Township CPAA (Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association).
When he wasn't behind a radio or diving into the depths, you could often find Bill casting a line in his favorite fishing spots, particularly enjoying the patience and precision of fly fishing. He successfully traveled to every state in the U.S. except New Hampshire and cherished the memories made with his family on many trips, including enjoyable veteran cruises.
Bill was married for a remarkable 54 years to his adoring wife, Donna Schroeder, with whom he shared countless beautiful memories. He was also a proud father to Justine Johnson and Charles Schroeder, as well as a loving father-in-law to Joseph Johnson and Vanessa Gonzalez. Bill leaves behind a close-knit family of five cherished grandchildren and several nephews who adored him.
William was preceded in death by parents Bert and Viola Schroeder and sister Annemarie Lewis
