William R. "Bill" Sears, born on June 19, 1952, in Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026. He leaves behind a rich legacy of kindness, wisdom, and love that will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
Bill was not only a dedicated educator but also a nurturing soul who touched the lives of countless students and colleagues during his long career with Goshen Schools. He was a guidance counselor in his later years, guiding young hearts with his gentle personality and unwavering support. A proud graduate of Murray State University and Xavier University, Bill held a master's degree that underscored his commitment to education and the betterment of others.
He is survived by his beloved sister, Sue Sears, and her partner, Sharon Thoroughman, along with a host of cherished cousins, including Valerie Claypool, Tony Claypool, Abbie Claypool, Kristopher Claypool, Patricia Palmer, Robert and Becky Adams and Brenda Jo Shumaker . His life was also enriched by the love of his late husband, Joseph David Desilva, and the countless friends and co-workers who held him in high regard. Proceeded in death by his beloved Mother Joyce (Pretty) Sears.
Bill's zest for life was evident in his many passions. His love for travel took him across the globe-exploring the historic streets of France, Italy, Canada, England, and Germany alongside Joe. He had a passion for good food, always on the lookout for the best eateries to try. Known for his polished appearance and sharp dressing, Bill was as stylish as he was kind-hearted but he could rock a pair of tube socks better than anyone.He delighted in playful card games and was occasionally goofy He also relished watching classic movies and TV shows like Perry Mason and he shared his home with a succession of beloved cats, who brought him much joy over the years.
In celebration of Bill's life, family and friends are invited to gather at Evans Funeral Home in Goshen on March 14, 2026, from 11 AM until the time of the memorial service beginning at 12 noon where we will reminisce and reflect on the wonderful memories he leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Bill's honor to the Ohio Alleycat Resource, an organization that reflects his lifelong compassion for animals. Donations may be made online by clicking HERE.
William R. Sears was more than a teacher; he was a beacon of hope, a source of laughter, and a wellspring of wisdom. His spirit will forever remain within the hearts of those he touched, reminding us to live life fully, wear our best clothes, share a meal with friends, and always find joy in the little moments.
